DNS problem - [5:47 PM]

Well a friend has sniffed out the problem at the ISP that hosts my site. They have two DNS Servers and one is still resolving to the OLD IP address. It should be easy to fix. I've brought it to their attention so hopefully it'll be fixed soon. If not I know someone that can fix it for me.

Well, what can I say. The Moose is once again loose! Moose was our one and only guess, and yes he was correct. I may have to put a bounty on the Moose's head to get his real name.

You a Rush fan? - [10:15 PM]

I've been sitting here tonight listening to Rush, non-stop, and for the life of me I cannot decide what my favorite song is, much less my favorite album. With each track that plays I find a sweet memory that relates to it. Right now Red Barchetta, from Moving Pictures, is blaring away and I can see myself lying on my bed my freshmen year of high school working on homework, dead tired from football practice. Earlier it was Countdown, from Signals, again memories flood back. This time I'm playing video games at a local arcade.

I just cannot for the life of me pick a favorite, everything sounds so darned good. Like what you ask? Take a look...

How true, how true... maybe? - [7:52 PM]

So be it. In 10 years Win32 programming will look about the same as shoveling coal into a steam engine." - We can only hope this evolves like Robert says. The coolest thing about the new framework is the runtime coupled with a great set of libraries basically becomes the OS. It's more abstract than today's Win32 API's, which in the end could mean a better way to write cross platform apps, and it's just a better way to sling code.

So when are we going to see a heavy duty application; like Word, Excel, or Visio, come out of Microsoft? I don't know of any myself. Another question. How many of the applets that ship with the OS will be managed code?

Longhorn - [10:14 PM]

CNet News: "But Microsoft will still need to explain to corporate information technology managers and professional software developers how Avalon can go beyond sprucing up existing Windows applications to contribute to the bottom line, analysts said." - Unfortunately I never got to work with Longhorn before leaving Microsoft. I was really looking forward to it. Hopefully I'll be able to attend the L.A. PDC in October. I'd imagine Longhorn is going to be a very tough sell. Some of the new stuff, like the new file system, will get folks interested for sure.

Have you thought about this? If WinFS is built on SQL Server and you have an Oracle database running on WinFS, isn't the Oracle database going to be stored in the SQL Server database? Or is that not how WinFS is going to work? Like I said, I never did get to use Longhorn so I could be barking up the wrong tree, but it's still kinda fun to think about, isn't it?

Another question for ya'll. Will Oracle build their own file system for the Windows(NT) operating system?
